CHEMISTRY SURFBOARDS - Check Our Inventory At Hansen Surfboards
In 2001, Jason Bennett and Michael Baron came together to start a brand focused on preserving the youth and catering to the progressive surfer. With the help of their close friends, artists, team riders and customers, the Chemistry Collective was born. Being surfers themselves has also helped in their knowledge of designing equipment suitable for the beginner to advanced surfer. By gathering a few of the industry's finest hand shapers, and being innovative through design, they have brought to life a quality product in a world of gimmicks.
We pride ourselves on being a company founded and operated by progressive, open minded surfers building a product geared for high performance surfing. We also use the lost art of the handshape. Despite growing production numbers, Chemistry is one of the few surfboard manufacturers providing each of their customers with a true custom product made in the U.S.A.
We welcome you to Chemistry; allow us to merge our style with yours and create something that can never be duplicated. |

JOEL TUDOR SURFBOARDS - Check Our Inventory At Hansen SurfboardsJoel Tudor is a world famous longboard surfer from San Diego, California.
He started out in skateboarding and, while in his early teens, gained both recognition and sponsorship for this. On the water, his apparently effortless skill saw him win his first professional ASP competition at age 14. Unlike the vast majority of his contemporaries who were riding only modern short surfboards, he also rode the out-of-fashion longboard, and it was the longboard that catapulted him to worldwide fame in his mid-teens. His reputation was such that, when he was on a break, other surfers would sometimes leave the water to watch his silky mastery of such skills as nose-riding ("hanging five" and "hanging ten" - riding with the toes of one or both feet hanging over the nose of the board). Admiration of Tudor was a major factor in the longboard revival of the 1990s.
Despite wide recognition as the doyen of modern longboard riders, and regularly competing in the longboard world championships, it took seven attempts before he finally won this event in the Canary Islands in 1998. Some Criticism has been forwarded, especially by other surfers such as Roth Allen, that his skills are largely blown out of proportion and that his only real skill is effective marketing. Nonetheless he has enjoyed a spectacular and influential career.
Joel now has his own surfboard manufacturing company, as well as selling wetsuits in Japan.
Due to his skill on both longboards and shortboards, on big waves and small, Tudor is widely considered to be one of the best surfers alive, and is also known for being unusually open-minded with regard to the diverse equipment that can be used for wave riding.
Joel Tudor is featured in "The Seedling" and "Sprout," surfing films both shot in 16mm film by Thomas Campbell.

MIKE HYNSON SURFBOARDS - Check Our Inventory At Hansen Surfboards Mike Hynson is the swaggering American co-star of the 1966 crossover hit "The Endless Summer," and creator of the popular Gordon and Smith produced "Red Fin" signature model board. Hynson is now a celebrated and world-renown surfboard shaper/designer, working from his beachside studio in San Diego, California; Born in 1942, Hynson's family moved to San Diego's Pacific Beach, in the mid 50's, where he began surfing in earnest.
Graceful and stylish, Hynson rapidly rose through the ranks to become one of the area's finest surfers. When visiting Hawaii for the first time in late 1961, Hynson's incomparable skill enabled him to be one of the first to ride the infamous "Pipeline" on the North Shore of the island of Oahu. Two years later, filmmaker Bruce Brown asked Hynson to star in his new film, "The Endless Summer." This gig required Hynson to travel the globe chasing summer and the perfect wave.
Mike has teamed up with Rich Pavel to design fins that allow a fish to surf in more juicy vertical waves that were traditionally out of bounds for the fish design. The HY IV innovative design allows a keel fin to work like a tri fin by reducing drag from the middle of the board because of the loss of the center fin. The board increasse lift and positive traction by this unique fin shape and design. This board is only available with the Lok Box Hynson/Pavel set up, either straight or turbo. Offered 5'6”- 7'0”

ROBERT AUGUST SURFBOARDSAll of our surfboards are crafted by hand at our state-of-the-art facility in Huntington Beach, California. Every facet of our production, from the position of the lights in the shaping bays, to the exact height of racks in the glassing room, to our unique and highly effective ventilation system, is designed and calibrated to insure cleanliness, precision, and zero-defects.
All of the skilled professionals at RA Surfboards have extensive backgrounds in the surfing industry, and each one enjoys an industry-wide reputation for the quality of their work.
Our popular long board models are designed by a few of the most notable surfers of the past thirty years: Robert August, Mark Martinson, Mike Minchinton, Wingnut, Paul Strauch, Corky Carroll, Mike Doyle, and Jericho Poppler.
The core of every RA Surfboard is always a 1st quality Clark Foam blank. We currently utilize 37 different length & rocker combinations, custom-molded to our specifications, for all of our long and short surfboard models. It's crucial to use the proper sized blank for a specific length of surfboard. Since the blanks are molded with volume proportional to the given lengths, using a blank that's too large results in over-shaping which degrades the integrity of the blank, resulting in a weaker board overall. SIMON ANDERSON SURFBOARDS Simon Anderson grew up in the 60's at Collaroy on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. He was lucky enough to witness the evolution of the modern day surfboard in his own backyard, ridden by a host of world class surfers including Nat and Chris Young, Butch and Steve Cooney, Rob Holt etc.
From the early 60's 9'6 longboard to the ultra short 5'4" single fin in '68, surfing was going through a dramatic design revolution; massive vee bottoms, trackers, tear drops, pins, double enders. Every 6 months there was a new leap forward and an extra 6" cut off the length of the board.
Simon Anderson gravitated to North Narrabeen in '69, to a culture of hardcore surfing with a strong link to board manufacturing at nearby Brookvale. He entered the industry as a ding fixer at Shane Surfboards in '70. His shaping career began at 17 after winning the '71 Australian Junior Title at Bells Beach from Peter Townend and the hottest junior of that year Andrew McKinnon.
Drawing inspiration from legendary local surfer/ shapers Bob Kennerson, Terry Fitzgerald, Geoff McCoy and Col Smith as well as the stella staff at Shane's, Frank Latta, Ted Spencer and Butch Cooney, Simon Anderson had the best possible apprenticeship.
In 1973 Simon Anderson competed in the first professional Australian contest at Bells Beach placing 3rd behind winner MP and 2nd Anthony Hardwick (NN Surfer). '76 saw the beginning of the World Tour. Simon Anderson had wins in '77 at Bells and the Coke 2SM Surfabout finishing the year ranked No 3. In 1981 he had 3 more victories the Bells/ Coke double again and the Pipe Masters on a new innovation "the Thruster", the modern day surfboard.
Simon Anderson is still motivated to improve surfboard design to benefit his own surfing, team riders and surfers in general, including Kelly Slater in 2005 who won at J - Bay and Trestles riding one of Simon's shapes. Simon Anderson uses his many years of experience in shaping, surfing and working with team riders to create the best possible boards for all wave conditions.

STRETCH SURFBOARDSLocated blocks from the beach in mid-town Santa Cruz, the Stretch factory is a prime location for scheming-up unique and alternative construction techniques.
Stretch builds each individual board under the same roof in the largest dedicated EPS/EPOXY surfboard factory in Northern California. Stretch believes that price should reflect longevity in a surfboard. They only use EPS with durable Epoxy resin so that customers make a retail surfboard purchase that will hold up over time and maintain its performance. Combine that with a team of unbelievably talented riders, progressive designs and premium California coastline and you get some of the best wave riding imaginable so that Stretch Reidel can deliver quality shapes to a handful of surfboard retailers.
“I begin shaping everyday before sunrise. With headphones on and tool in hand, there's only one way I get the job done. I personally tend to every board so that my customers receive the same quality and scrutiny as any of my team riders. I never cut corners. All my boards receive 100% attention. That's how we get results.” And Stretch has definitely achieved great results with the way his boards work in any kind of wave. One of the more “gourmet” boards Hansen's has to offer, the feedback from Hansen's customers about these boards is some of the best, most exciting feedback the salespeople at Hansen's have heard in a long time.

SURFTECH SURBOARDS - Check Our Inventory At Hansen SurfboardsRandy French founded SURFTECH in 1989, his background as a surfboard shaper and a pioneer in the windsurf industry drove him to experiment with different materials in an effort to make his boards lighter and stronger.
He began by building a prototype with Rusty Preisendorfer at his factory in Oregon. These original boards remain the most sought after of all SURFTECH shaper's sample boards. The original Rusty project, put on hold due to a mutual concern over the early production factory prompted Randy to speak with his contacts within the windsurfing world. The result was a partnership with an international factory that matches Surftech's commitment to excellence, providing unparalleled capabilities, strong environmental awareness and unmatched craftsmanship.
The first shaper to join with Randy and Surftech was legendary South Bay shaper, Dale Velzy. Soon after Reynolds Yater, Mickey Munoz, Robert August and Donald Takayama all were on board and enthusiastic about what this new technology would mean to the world of surfing. Soon after, Surftech was producing entire quivers from these legendary shapers and Randy's vision of sharing this new technology became a reality.
As the longboard side of Surftech continued to grow through the early ‘90s, the company turned it's attention to the shortboard world.
Randy had introduced his own line of shortboards in 1990 and was getting very good feedback from the Santa Cruz crew. Geoff Rashe, shaper and owner of M10 Surfboards in Santa Cruz was convinced after his top team rider, Jason “Ratboy” Collins tried one of the boards and wouldn't give it back.
Soon shortboard shapers from around the globe including Glen Minami, Phil Byrne, John Carper, Rusty Preisendorfer & Al Merrick saw the advantages of working with Surftech and that Surftech's “Tuflite” would be a positive addition to their surfboard offering.
Partnering with the world's top shapers gave Surftech access to the top surfers in the world including Shane Dorian, Pancho Sullivan, Ratboy, Matt Rockhold, Tom Carroll, Myles Padaca, Tyler Smith, Pete Mel and a host of others. Hearing their feedback on the Tuflite boards was confirmation that Randy's vision of a lighter, stronger more high-performance surfboard was for real.
Four years in the making and hundreds of prototypes later, TL2 is a clear board that has a more forgiving flex and was hand tuned similar to custom boards. In the R&D phase of TL2, the product development team developed a tighter matrix fused cell core (“Techlite”) that will not absorb water. This was an unexpected discovery that not only added significant value to their new TL2 technology but to the existing Softops, Wood Veneer & Tuflite technologies as well. |
