Created in 2003 AKA Surfboards has dedicated its entire existence to providing high performance surfboards at reasonable prices with the fastest turnaround times in the industry. The AKA movement stemmed from frustration of waiting for boards... why does it always take so long to get a board? We consistently knock out world-class shapes with unheard of lead times. Our focus on our customers buying experience is excelling us beyond all of our hopes. We are entering the next season with an enormous sense of pride and appreciation for the opportunity that surfing has given us. For us, surfing is the only thing that tops the feeling of stoking people out with surfboards.

AKA Surfboards was created with two goals:
1. Create the highest level of performance shapes and craftsmanship.

2. Provide the highest level of customer service.

AKA shaper, Jay Novak is a veteran shaper that has been committed full time since 1970. His ability to create the right surfboard for the individual or the right surfboards for a specific geographic location is of the highest caliber among the elites of surfboard shapers. Our customer service coupled with Jay’s skills and support from surf shops like Hansen’s has given AKA Surfboards global recognition in a relatively short period of time. Hansen’s, which is the closest shop to our office, was the first shop to support AKA and since then, we have moved hundreds of boards to locals and customers abroad. Over the years we have created an invaluable relationship with the staff at Hansen’s, which has become our greatest strength in providing our customers with the quality of service and boards that they deserve. 1. Support our core California shapers that sacrifice financial happiness and health to suck dust and resin fumes to make boards for you.

2. DO NOT support any piece of @%$! China board that you'll find on the rack at your local corporate surf shop for $300.

Aviso Surfboards specializes in composite engineering techniques to manufacture hollow, carbon fiber surfboards. The materials and methods used are predominately known to the aerospace and defense industry, where design and manufacture of structures must be lightweight, strong, and have ideal flex characteristics to withstand intense physical forces. Aviso pursued constructing a surfboard based foremost on significantly increasing performance and handling characteristics while bolstering strength and durability factors by orders of magnitude.

The design and manufacturing team brings together over 200 years of composite engineering experience derived from the aerospace and defense industry, with additional experience in designing competition sailboat racing foils and other advance hydrodynamic and wind force harnessing equipment. With multiple generations of surfers at the helm, Aviso translated their experience in advanced composite construction techniques and applied them to surfboard construction. Aviso Surfboards relies upon designs crafted by some of the world’s most recognized shapers. All aspects of the Company’s products are manufactured in the USA.

Aviso’s design and manufacturing team have worked with composites primarily in the defense industry specializing in radomes, covers for radar or broad banded electro-magnetic windows for radar on missile heads, and nose cones for jet fighters. These parts, having to not only perform electrically and aerodynamically, must also be impact resistant to rain and other airborne particulate at speeds over 4,000 feet per second. All members of the core team possess an intimate knowledge of the sport of surfing and given their remarkable background in composites, it was a natural fit to apply their knowledge base to surfboard design.

Their expert knowledge in composites provided Aviso the ability to create a superior product compared to traditional board building practices. For the first time in history, Aviso is able to make a truly engineered product that can be fine tuned with the construction. The goal is not necessarily to make the lightest and strongest boards, but to make the ideal board construction for a unique set of wave conditions.

What sets Boardworks apart from other epoxy sandwich manufacturers is our proprietary Thermal Epoxy Compression technology. Utilizing this technology, where we apply both heat and pressure, coupled with the finest epoxy resins, Boardworks produces a sandwiched surfboard that is light, tight, and very durable. Each Boardworks board consists of a dual-density core, (EPS bonded to a high density divynicell outer shell), fiberglass, and epoxy resins. In our T.E.C. construction we are able to replicate a board from favorite shapers that has an amazing strength to weight ratio, excellent flex, and rebound characteristics that give our boards a "feel" in the water that surfers of all abilities will appreciate.
