Paddle Out for Don Hansen: Celebrating a Life and Legacy
On Sunday, August 30th, friends, family, surfers, and members of our community gathered at Seaside Beach for a paddle out in memory of Don Hansen.
It was an incredibly special morning and one we will never forget.
Surrounded by the ocean Don loved so much, the community came together to celebrate his life, share memories, and honor the incredible legacy he leaves behind. Seeing so many familiar faces on the beach and in the water was a powerful reminder of just how many lives Don touched throughout his lifetime.
From longtime friends and members of the surf community to Hansen’s employees, customers, and families, we are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us. Whether you paddled out, watched from the beach, shared a story, gave a hug, or simply came to show your support, thank you for helping make the day so meaningful.
We would also like to extend a very special thank you to the lifeguards, water safety and support teams, California State Parks, and everyone who helped coordinate and support the paddle out both on land and in the water. Your time, care, and assistance helped make it possible for our community to safely come together and honor Don in such a special way.
And to all of the friends, family, photographers, volunteers, community members, and behind-the-scenes helping hands who contributed to the day — thank you. There were so many people who stepped up to make this celebration possible, and we are incredibly appreciative of each and every one of you.
Don built Hansen Surfboards around much more than surfing. He built it around family, friendship, adventure, and community. Seeing everyone gathered together at Seaside felt like a true reflection of that legacy.
