Hansen Surfboards was established in 1961 on Oahu's famous North Shore by Don Hansen.

In 1962, Don moved the shop from the small shack on Kawela Bay, Hawaii to a larger building just across the street from Cardiff Reef in Cardiff-by-the-Sea, California. It was here that Don's surfboard shaping business really began to grow. By the mid-1960's, Hansen Surfboards was shipping surfboards to many parts of the world.  In fact at one time Hansen Surfboards manufactured over 6000 surfboards a year.  In the early 1970 as the surfboard industry started to change Don Hansen decided to transition from a surfboard manufacturer into a retail surf clothing operation.  Today Hansen Surfboards is one of the premier surf shop in the world and has ties to many surf companies that were founded long after Hansen's.  This includes companies like Ocean Pacific, Quiksilver, and in the case of Ocean Pacific Don Hansen was actually one of 4 partners who founded the company.  Hansen's today has prided itself of providing the best shopping expereince you will find in any industry and we hope that if you are ever in the San Diego area you will stop by the shop and enjoy a piece of surfing history.
