Kids Invited to Redeem Report Cards at Hansen Surfboards

 Students in grades K-12 with good grades are invited to redeem their report cards in exchange for vouchers good for merchandise at Hansen Surfboards as part of the retailer's "Goods for Grades" program, now in its 17th year. The store gave away $98,041 in merchandise vouchers last year and expects to give away more this year. Since the Goods for Grades program was created in October of 1996 to reward students from elementary through high school for their good grades, the retailer has given away a total of $584,978. The idea for the program was created by employee, Patty Bolton, and the Hansen family immediately loved the idea.

"Goods for Grades is so rewarding for us because the kids and their families get so excited to show us their report cards," said Josh Hansen. "Some of them who used to live here or heard about it from friends or the internet come from other parts of the U.S. when they're on their family vacation. If it's an incentive to get kids to try harder in school, and they have fun doing it, then we're all for it."

Surf Industry Manufacturers Association Names Hansen Surfboards Finalist for Its 10^th Annual SIMA Image Awards

ENCINITAS, Calif., Dec. 18, 2012 – The Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA) has named Hansen Surfboards as one of the nominees for the SIMA Image Awards, honoring the best of the surf industry from 2012. Now in its 10^th year, the awards competition recognizes fellow surf industry companies for their outstanding contributions to advance and grow the industry. Winners will be announced at the SIMA Image Awards ceremony February 7, 2013 at The Grove in Anaheim, Calif., an event that is open to the public.

Hansen Surfboards was nominated for Men’s Retailer of the Year, a distinction awarded to the specialty retailer that featured the best selection, product mix and merchandising in the men’s category between January 1 and September 1, 2012.

Hansen Surfboards Invites Surfers to Try Boards from Boardroom International Surfboard Show at Demo Day

ENCINITAS, Calif., Oct. 2, 2012 – Surfers eager to try out boards on display at the Boardroom International Surfboard Show (Boardroom) are getting their chance during the Demo Morning hosted by Hansen Surfboards, Sunday, Oct. 7, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Nearly 75 demo surfboards will be on hand at the event, located at 15^th St. Powerhouse Park in Del Mar, Calif. The surf spot is known for its combination of reef and beach break peaks. For entry to the Demo Morning, participants must show their Boardroom wristband.

“We have a lot of fun with this event,” said Josh Hansen. “It’s great to see surfers ride boards they’ve been eyeing for a while, and when they get that ride that feels just right, there’s nothing like it. We’re stoked to be part of that. Everyone’s in such a great mood when they’re surfing the best gear for nothing!”

Hansen Surfboards Holds Bake Sale, Surfboard Opportunity Drawing July 21 to Help Eradicate Childhood Hunger

ENCINITAS, Calif., July 16, 2012 – The Hansen family is known for rallying behind a good cause, and this time is no different. When Hansen Surfboards employee Patty Bolton approached Josh Hansen and suggested a bake sale to raise money to help feed hungry kids, he was all for it and the whole staff joined in to help. Patty’s idea – to hold a bake sale Saturday, July 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the store parking lot to help raise funds for Share Our Strength, an organization that helps feed hungry kids – quickly gained popularity when Channel Islands Surfboards donated a Taylor Knox autographed board for an opportunity drawing. LOST Surfboards also donated a board for the drawing.

“I watching the cooking channel one day when I saw a special about the Share Our Strength Great American Bake Sale and it said that one in five children in America struggle with hunger every day. I decided to take my love of baking and do something good for kids in need,” explained Bolton. “When I was just starting out, I lived in a little complex near the beach full of surfers and one single mom. Her little boy used to come to my apartment every day and ask if I had any food. I used to give him whatever I had. I look back on that now, and I realize how sad that was. That little guy was actually hungry. I want to do something about kids like that. I want to help.”

Already, Bolton and the Hansen Surfboards staff has raised slightly more than $600 for Share Our Strength, just $900 shy of the goal to raise $1,500.

Beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2 through Sunday, Feb. 5, selected skis, snowboards, boots, bindings, adult and children’s clothing, helmets, goggles and accessories will be marked down 20 to 50 percent.

with “Goods for Grades” Program

Almost $94,000 awarded in merchandise for good grades in 2011,

ENCINITAS, Calif., December. 12, 2011 – Hansen Surfboards, celebrating its 50^th anniversary this year, has announced that the company has given away nearly $94,000 in merchandise for good grades in 2011. Since the Goods for Grades program was created in October of 1996 by the Hansen family to reward students from elementary through high school for their good grades, the retailer has given away a total of $445,918. 27.

Hansen Surfboards is kicking off the ski and snowboard season with its annual Snow & Swap sale Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 5 – 6. Up to 50 percent off selected models of skis and snowboards, and clothing and accessories are also being offered during the sale.

From Oct. 27 through Nov. 10, Hansen Surfboards will give a 15 percent discount to everyone who donates $15 worth of canned or dry food. The discount excludes surfboards, UGG products, gift cards, swap and sale items.
